Using EN 45545 Certifications for NFPA-130 Compliance

r2p

US transit agencies rely on NFPA-130 to demonstrate fire safety, while in Europe and elsewhere EN 45545 defines the approach to fire safety.  While the two standards share common goals and use similar tests, EN 45545 certificates and test results cannot be directly submitted to show compliance to NFPA-130 because of subtle differences between the tests.  This is a challenge for equipment manufacturers that have invested in EN 45545 certification when attempting to sell their products to the US market.

Tenco assisted r2p, a manufacturer of video, communication, and networking equipment, with overcoming this challenge by performing NFPA-130 compliant engineering analyses that took advantage of existing EN 45545 compliance to demonstrate that r2p’s products do not present a fire hazard and comply with NFPA-130.
