Energy Efficiency & Storage

Tenco leads in the analysis, planning, design, implementation, integration, test, and commissioning of energy storage for rail and electric bus operations.  Tenco expertise covers both the transit agency and power utility sides of the demark, bringing professionals with deep experience in understanding the issues and opportunities related to:

  • Transit benefits:  energy savings, tunnel and station cooling, voltage support, traction power supply resilience and backup, emergency supply and recovery 
  • Utility benefits:  use of renewable energy, ancillary services, arbitrage, capture of incentives, and investment deferral.


Tenco works with flywheel, battery, supercapacitor, and gravity energy storage systems on rail, bus, and power utility systems.  Tenco designed and built the LA Metro Wayside Energy Storage System controller which achieved industry-leading recovery levels, and extensively tested energy storage systems at other agencies.

In energy efficiency, Tenco performs in-depth design studies, analysis, modeling, and test to determine cost-effective strategies for improving retrofit and green field energy performance, including for LA Metro and New York City Transit.
